GEMFIVE to heighten Malaysian online shopping experience

Kuala Lumpur, 18 May -, online e-commerce marketplace, officially opens for business today. "Consumers and businesses are embracing e-commerce at unprecedented levels today. And in Malaysia and across ASEAN, we now see a convergence of ecosystem - more businesses coming online, rising consumer acceptance, expanding middle class and household consumption, growing broadband and smartphone penetration, fast improving logistics and delivery solutions, wider payment options and deeper trust levels with digital transactions and online data. And this is where opportunity meets innovation - the timing is right to introduce," says GEMFIVE founder Quek Kon Sean. The Hong Leong Group is a cornerstone investor in GEMFIVE currently.

"We are proud to start in Malaysia, our home base. And we hope to take our home grown brand, GEMFIVE to other countries soon in the region."

"We launch GEMFIVE to create value for consumers and the merchant community. We build GEMFIVE with a vision of it becoming a regional digital marketplace offering customers not just a comprehensive assortment of goods and services but also great finds and exclusive deals, along with tips, tools and inspirations to simplify everyday life," adds Moey Tan, the company's CEO.

"On GEMFIVE, consumers can source for products across many categories - fashion, electronics, beauty and health, home and living, mum and kids.

"GEMFIVE focuses on curation, value and simplicity. With curation, we help customers discover authentic products and exciting brands - many of which are emerging or are not easily accessible locally. For value, we are mindful of keeping prices reasonable and competitive. And more importantly, with the help of big data, we can soon offer automated, relevant and even personalised recommendations. The customer experience must be simple and hassle-free - that means integrated and on-demand processes, agile technologies and trusted payment credentials, and reliable partners for GEMFIVE," she continues.

"The next stage for GEMFIVE's platform evolution is for it to be truly personal, local, mobile and social. That will be the game changer, and that's our pursuit."

"We are grateful for the support of the initial cohort of merchants who have trusted and come on board with us, even before GEMFIVE officially launches to the wider public. We currently have over 100 merchants and over 300 brands.

GEMFIVE is a genuine business partner to our merchants. The platform effectively helps merchants, big and small, local and foreign, onshore and offshore, to increase their consumer reach and access untapped segments. By working with various brand owners, we are able to bring in exclusive brands which are currently not accessible in the region.

Some of our merchants are coming online for the very first time with GEMFIVE, and we are so excited to support their foray into e-commerce. For others, they value the idea of GEMFIVE being a single trusted site for transactions. From easy set-up to a variety of fulfilment options, warehousing and delivery at competitive costs, and overall fair economics, we at GEMFIVE believe that creating value for merchants will naturally lead to large, relevant and interesting assortment for customers.

Fashion brands in the line-up that are exclusively on GEMFIVE include cult streetwear brands Sakun and Beyond Closet which are popular with K-pop celebrities. Other international fashion brands which will be introduced are Stella & Jamie (USA) with its LA chic style, WhyRed (Sweden) with its cool Scandinavian style, Neuw Denim (Australia) jeans, and quirky DA+PP (Thailand) appealing to the hipsters. Fast fashion for the fast-paced world is also available with brands like Cheap Monday (Sweden), a premium label under the H&M Group, Almatrichi from Spain, and Pomelo Fashion (Thailand) which is inspired by the Korean style.

Aside from new brands, consumers can also look forward to popular brands like Annick Goutal, Laura Mercier & Caudalie by Ken's Apothecary, Dr. Ko, Tony Moly, Crabtree & Evelyn and L'Occitane for the Beauty & Health category. GEMFIVE also brings together a range of quality home products.
